School experiment in deep breathing

As part of my health class in school, we’ve been doing a section on mediation and how it can help people with a lot of things.  I always thought meditation was just for helping with stress and stuff like that, but it turns out that it can help with other medical conditions, too.  Seems a lot of people use some form of mediation to help with pain relief and migraine control.

My teacher brought in a CD and got the whole class to do some guided breathing exercises.  At first it felt weird and some of the guys were laughing, but after a while everyone got into it.  We’re doing it daily for two weeks and have to write in a journal about how we were feeling before we do the exercise and after.  Also, the teacher wants us to do some deep breathing throughout the day and at home, before we go to sleep.

I’ve really been enjoying it, and while I was never a really stressful person to begin with, I do find that I am more relaxed since I started the deep breathing.  I figure once we are done with it in health class I’ll continue with it on my own.
