Having recently been promoted to regional director of most of the Southern states, I am only beginning to realize what it means to have regular travel routes as a part of my job. Since I’m flying from the Pacific Northwest, I’ll start my planning by looking for Alcoa hotels in Tennesse.

Once I find a quality, budget friendly place there, I’m on to Alabama where I believe I’ll be able to stay at a Birmingham airport hotel and still get to all of my appointments which with the exception of one meeting are all within a short taxi ride of the airport.

Hotels in Atlanta present another beast altogether. While there are about a million of them to choose from, the businesses I’ll be visiting are spread rather evenly across the geographical landscape. I am betting, however that I’ll be able to find a great hotel deal for my stay in Georgia that will allow me to be centrally located, and be able to afford a rental car to get to all of my meetings.

And given that I have as many appointments there as the other two stops combined, it makes all the sense to plan on a car rental versus taking a cab. That just wouldn’t make much economic sense.
