Empty Nest Hot Tubs
By Celeste on Jun 17, 2009 in Real Estate
My parents just got a portable hot tub. It is ideal for them, as empty nesters in a smaller home now that we all have left their house. It was one of those 2 person hot tubs that let them both relax at the same time, while enjoying each other’s company. They had always wanted a hot tub, and when they saw this hot tub for sale, they knew that now was a great time to buy it. Sometimes when you are faced with a choice like this, it is fate. If they had not been walking through the store at the time that they were, they would have never seen this particular hot tub, so they jumped on it when they saw it and the price.
Having a hot tub has proved very beneficial to them. As they have gotten older, it has become necessary to rest their weary muscles and a hot tub reenergizes them. They like to use it at night, to help them relax before bedtime. Of course when the grandkids come over, they also get a kick out of Grandma and Grandpa having the hot tub. They like to get in and use it as their own personal wading pool.

That sounds perfect! And it sounds small enough that they can move it if they move homes. I never thought of a 2-person hot tub, but that’s all you need unless you want a big Hugh Hefner party or something!

My parents had one out in the desert, though I think it was a little bigger than a two-person. Still they got it on sale and never looked back. When we visited, they would tell us to get in to enjoy it!

Funny, a lot of people in the town where I live (Yucca Valley–the high desert outside of Palm Springs) have one. It just seems to feel so nice to the elderly, as long as it’s not too hot. At night, it cools down a lot in the high desert.

I bet that now is a great time to buy a hot tub. I bet business is slow due to the economy, so if you’re going to buy one, now is the time. There are a lot of great sales out there!

Is there a particular season that’s best for hot tub sales? If I were to guess, I would guess that it’s the end of summer, when cars and lawnmowers go on sale, but I could be wrong. Anyone have any advice on a good time of year to buy?

I don’t know if there is one good time of year over another to buy, but I would advise againse buying a used one off of craigslist. The main reason I say this is, you won’t have the benefit of the service department. Plus, you’d have to arrange to move it and install it all yourself.

But there are lots of companies out there that service hot tubs–it’s not a specialty service anymore that can only be carried out by the company that sold it to you. There are spa movers, too, but I agree with not buying a used one off of craigslist.
