David Carradine Collector’s Item

One of my favorite movies is Kill Bill starring David Carradine. Another one of my favorite movies obviously is Kill Bill 2. And when I was a kid I used to watch this show on TV called Kung Fu. And that of course starred David Carradine. I guess you could say that I am a big David Carradine fan.

So it goes without saying that I was shocked a little while back when I heard that he had died. I’m not even going to go into the bizarre circumstances surrounding his death. But then again when you see some of the roles he has played as an actor it becomes very possible that he was quite the character in real life.

Now I have never been one to collect things like Samurai swords or any other martial weapons, but I was surfing around on the internet and stumbled upon a real collector’s item. It turns out that David Carradine signed a limited number of exact replicas of the sword that he used in the Kill Bill movies! Now they aren’t just giving these things away, but because they can’t really get him to sign any more I think this could be a good investment. I guess we’ll see.

3 Great Sports Gift Baskets

Do you know someone who is a hardcore sports fan? Are you always trying to figure out the best new sports-themed gift to give to this person whenever a special occasion comes around? If you haven’t gotten him or her a sports gift basket yet then I’d say this is one of the best choices.

Here is a look at three sports that make for great fan gift baskets:

  • Football. There are so many great little trinkets and things that are made for football fans. Compile a bunch of them into a gift basket and make someone’s day.
  • Golf. Golf gift baskets are among the most popular gift baskets. This is due in part to the fact that they’re great as gifts for businesspeople as well as for people who are general fans of golf. Golf tees and golf towels are among the things that might be in this gift basket.
  • Fishing. People may not be fans of fishing as a sport but a lot of people do engage in it themselves. If you know someone who fishes then one of these sports gift baskets could be a perfect gift.

Of course, any sport works well as a theme for a gift basket. Think about this the next time that you need to shop for a sports lover.

Find a Happy Medium

I was just searching randomly through videos on YouTube, and discovered something that worries me: Apparently, Golf Dads are running rampant on the Internet, just like Soccer Moms are on the field.

I’m not crazy about the idea of pushing child athletes to excel in sports — or anything, really, for that matter.  Supporting your kid’s interests and getting him some golf training is one thing; and if you want to take video footage of your kid golfing, more power to you!  He’s your kid, after all, and these are memories you will cherish.

But what I don’t understand is why parents push their kids into things.  When I was a kid, it was that way with my sister, my mom, and gymnastics.  My sister was the star gymnast, quite motivated on her own, but that didn’t stop my mom into making it almost a personal affront to her if my sister didn’t do well at a meet.

YouTube is almost scary, how it attracts parents living vicariously through their child.  For every cute video of a little kid golfing, like the one below, you can find several from parents bragging that their kid is better than Tiger Woods.  Oh, and if you really want a good laugh, read some of the comments to these videos — and the parents’ responses.  It’s amazing how uptight some of them are!

Find a happy medium with your kids and their hobbies.  I mean, encourage your kids to pursue their hobbies, and help them stick with it, but don’t push them too hard or you may actually create an aversion to the sport.  Let them enjoy learning and playing now, and maybe later on they’ll choose to become really competitive, maybe even start looking at golf careers — but let that be their choice, not yours.

Marine Supply & Demand

In today’s economy it can be hard to believe that there is still a demand for not only used boat but new boats as well as marine supply for parts. The reason the demand continues to go up for the boating industry is because of the incredible price drop in brand new boats. Today you can buy a brand new boat for less than half the price you could 5years ago which makes for a great opportunity for your first boat. With this in mind, marine accessories have come down in price as well. This includes everything you need to successfully run your boat at sea.

With the demand for brand new boats, the demand for parts is slowing down but not for long. The day is quickly approaching where all these new boats will need to be serviced and this will revitalize the boating industry. For anyone who owns a boat there is not greater present than something from a marine supply store. Take the time to buy directly from these retailers and help boost their market as well as someone’s day with a great surprise. Marine supplies can be found anywhere boats are sold and even in individual retailers.

Making Your MilSim Realistic

Some people are so into their airsoft or paintball that they want to make their MilSim games look and feel as real as possible.

If this sounds like you, you should consider getting tactical headsets for you and your MilSim groups.  Talk about really looking the part — plus, you will be able to keep in touch with your teammates better during the game.

For instance, these Squadcom series headsets go under your helmets and make it easy to communicate without taking off your gear or anything like that, which the real military would never do.  It will make you look and feel much cooler when you are playing airsoft or paintball than if you were just using 2 way radios to communicate!

In general, the more authentic you make your MilSim games, the more exciting it will feel to you.  Something else that many people love to do is to make videos of their MilSim games with digital video cameras and editing software.  They might stage a fight, capture one of their other players, play a game such as Capture the Flag, or simply do a training or marksmanship demonstration.  These videos can be found all over the place on YouTube — for instance, see the one below:

What else do you do to make your MilSim more exciting?
