Making Your MilSim Realistic

Some people are so into their airsoft or paintball that they want to make their MilSim games look and feel as real as possible.

If this sounds like you, you should consider getting tactical headsets for you and your MilSim groups.  Talk about really looking the part — plus, you will be able to keep in touch with your teammates better during the game.

For instance, these Squadcom series headsets go under your helmets and make it easy to communicate without taking off your gear or anything like that, which the real military would never do.  It will make you look and feel much cooler when you are playing airsoft or paintball than if you were just using 2 way radios to communicate!

In general, the more authentic you make your MilSim games, the more exciting it will feel to you.  Something else that many people love to do is to make videos of their MilSim games with digital video cameras and editing software.  They might stage a fight, capture one of their other players, play a game such as Capture the Flag, or simply do a training or marksmanship demonstration.  These videos can be found all over the place on YouTube — for instance, see the one below:

What else do you do to make your MilSim more exciting?

Taking Chances in the Wilderness

I’ve never been fly fishing, but I have been to Georgia. On the way to Florida, I’ve been down I-95 and both I-85 and I-75, from the country through Atlanta, and back into the country again. On a road stop, a tourism worker said, “georgia fishing is good.” I have tried fishing. There are lots of people that fish along the ocean in New York, and some have even showed me how. I wasn’t successful. That doesn’t mean I’d never try it again, because I like nature and going on trips, so one day I may look for the best bass fishing trip out there, or even try fly fishing.

So when the day comes, I’ll do my product research and get all the things I need to go on a fly fishing trip and maybe even head down to Georgia. There’s nothing like being on the water, or wading through it on a warm sunny day with nature all around. It is still a wonder that with all the cities and all the development that has grown over many landscapes, there are still expanses of wilderness that seem endless and which a person can let loose in and even get lost for a while. While getting lost can be dangerous, it can also be fun if you’re careful. There may be some tasty fish out there as well.

Practicing on the Road

Most of my friends know that I am a little different than them.  Now, I am not some freak or weirdo by any means, but my life has different priorities than the majority of people.  You see, I love baseball and I am hoping to play it professionally some day, so I have been training diligently each and every day for the past ten years - yes I am that dedicated.

But this dedication really hasn’t got in the way of my life.  I still have time to hang out with my friends, go on dates with my girlfriend, and I even have time to volunteer at the local food bank.  Sure, my life is busy, but at the same time, I find what I am doing really rewarding.

There are still some things that I need to do a little differently than most people to make this life work properly.  To keep my baseball skills at their peak, I need to make sure that I train a consistent amount of time each week.  Sometimes that can be tough, but I make sure that I make the time to get it done.

There have been many ways that I have been able to continue training on the road.  For example, I looked up all the Tampa Florida batting cages that were along the highway that we were following on a recent road trip

I have also arranged my vacation around the time a Florida baseball camp was happening so that I could take advantage of the specialized Tampa softball lessons that they offered.  It was a great break from the vacation and allowed me to get some extra advice from professionals.

Needless to say, there are plenty of opportunities to practice your sport or discipline while on the road - you just might need to look a little harder to find them.

Pastimes for Business People

Business people need ways to destress just like anyone else, but they also use their pastimes to accomplish things such as business deals.  My sister once told me that she was taking classes at a golf school to learn how to golf better, because in her field — the business banking industry — most deals are made on the golf course.

Golf is a huge leisure pastime for business people.  Think about how often you’ve passed a golf course and seen folks in business casual going from hole to hole on their golf carts.  You may not know it, but a lot of times there is probably a business relationship being formed there, or a business deal being negotiated.

As my sister told me, it benefitted her to know how to play golf — and play it well.  Otherwise golf — the arena where most deals get signed — is just another "boys’ club" that women bankers aren’t invited to.  She had to be able to match the men swing for swing, so she found someone to teach golf so that she could hold her own with the guys.  She was looking for a professional golf career or anything, but she did need to uphold her reputation when she takes clients to the golf course!
