Scarlett Johansson in Canada

Did you know Scarlett Johansson married a Canadian last year?  I had no idea, but having recently watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona, I was looking up information about her and found this out.

It sounds like they got married at a wilderness retreat in Canada.  I’ve heard Canada vacation packages are a lot of fun and the scenery is beautiful, so that sounds really beautiful to me.  I’d rather be at a wilderness retreat than see Canada via rail train tour, but that’s just me.

Scarlett Johansson is quickly becoming one of my favorite actresses.  I liked her in The Island and The Prestige, but it was her role in The Other Boleyn Girl that really took my breath away.  She played the role of Mary Boleyn perfectly.

Another of her movies that I haven’t yet seen but look forward to is The Nanny Diaries.  I spent a long time working in child care myself, and so I really loved that book — it hit the nail right on the head with its descriptions of the family Nan works for.  So many wealthy families I’ve worked for are just like that!  Johansson I think will be perfect as Nan, and I’m really looking forward to seeing it — hopefully sometime soon.

I am especially excited to hear that she is supposed to be in the sequel to Iron Man.  I loved the first one, and I can’t wait to see Scarlett Johansson in the second!

Where does the time go

Well it has finally happened. I am officially old. My best friend from high school called me up today and said that we had to go shopping for maternity clothes and maternity dresses at the mall today, and that it was not for her sister this time, but for her. I can not believe it. Where does the time go. I do not feel like I am that old, and I sure as heck do not feel like we are old enough for my best friend from high school to be married, let alone having children. But I sure am excited for her!

It all used to be so simple. We were members in the marching band and would spend our Friday nights out at the football games having fun and making music and goofing off. We would go on road trips to Disneyland with the band and have so much fun just being young and free and without any real kind of responsibility at all. It does not seem like it has been so long since those days that she can possibly understand the kind of commitment and responsibility that it takes to have kids already. Yet I know that all our other friends have started down the same path too. Maybe it will happen for me too someday.

To Benefit the Company

My company has been using FTP storage for over three weeks now, and we have just upgraded to the SFTP file transfer. We initially found out that the base service doesn’t offer secure transfers. With the upgraded service we are able to transfer huge amounts of data in a fraction of the time it took us to mail our tape drives off to customers. What once use to take anywhere from a couple days to a week can now take five hours. With internet speeds increasing every day, this number is bound to drop. My customers have been very happy with the speed in which they get their marketing designs. We focus very much on the aspect of maintaining a highly technical staff, and the time to receipt has been our sore thumb.

I am very happy with the service I have been getting. Our business has been growing, and we just can’t maintain the media to handle our growing customer list. Besides, physical media can be lost or stolen. This then becomes more of an issue of liability than of service. I don’t like being liable for customer’s sensitive data, and I think this was the perfect way of pushing our company into better efficiency.

A Home to Be Proud Of

entertaining at home

Entertaining at home is wonderful — when you have a home you can be proud of.  And since no one buys a home in a vacuum — no matter how much they claim not to care, almost everyone wants their friends to be impressed with their home — I highly recommend thinking about whether you could or would entertain in a home before buying it.

For instance, if you are looking at Carlsbad California lofts, you are probably something of an urbanite, which means entertaining at home is a definite possibility — not to mention probably a frequent one.  So make sure when shopping for a home that you look for something that will fit your entertaining needs, including impressing the people you want to impress.

Something else to consider: If you work from home, you want to make sure your work area is separate from the rest of the house, or you are going to look like a workaholic work-from-home type, rather than the cool work-from-home type that everyone envies.  Look for live work space in Carlsbad that is well designed, to offer some separation between work and life, for those times when you really don’t want to be sucked into work at an ungodly hour (or at least don’t want your friends to know that this happens).

I know it’s really tempting to pretend we don’t care what our friends think of our home, but the truth is, we do.  So be sure you consider your entertainment needs when you are shopping for a new home, so that you can entertain with pride once you’ve moved in!

Storage Encourages Purge

When my daughter moved to Allen storage of her belongings became a huge issue.  My husband and I were buying a smaller home and Katie just had a small apartment she was renting with a friend.  My daughter had accumulated a lot of possessions in her 23 years from stuffed animals to sports trophies.  While she didn’t want to take everything with her, she wasn’t quite ready to throw away any of her belongings, either.  And my husband and I seriously doubted that we would have room for everything in our new house.

I told my daughter to look into self storage facilities in Allen so she could store her stuff near by.  That way she could slowly go through it and decide what she wanted to keep.  We held on to her trophies and awards, but everything else would have to go into self storage

She found a place near by and we rented a truck to move all of her stuff down.  Amazingly, once we got there, she immediately started figuring out what she wanted to keep and what could be donated.   And it’s a good thing, too:  she had so much stuff she would have needed to rent two storage units!
